The onion drizzle is what sets Al's Gourmet apart from its competitors on SoDo's hot-dog row. Al's—a bright yellow tent and food truck, located a few paces apart on Occidental Avenue South—keeps a stainless-steel tub filled with onions simmering in their own juicy deliciousness on the grill. Each time a customer orders a sausage with complimentary onions, the cook dips his tongs into the vat, pinches a helping of those golden-brown morsels, and then shakes the excess juice onto the still-cooking wieners. As a result, every frank is imbued with a hint of savory onion flavor. When those sausages are topped with actual grilled onions (and of course mustard), one's immediate instinct is to order another, which is perfectly OK since Al's has a two-for-the-price-of-one postgame special.
