If you happen to find yourself on the Eastside jonesing for some serious street tacos, then Taqueria La Venadita is where you want to go. The dining room is simple and spare, the menu short, the service friendly and businesslike when you place your order across the counter and settle in to wait. But the crowds of teenagers, families, couples, and wandering taco junkies who fill the place in waves should be proof enough that something special is going on here. What most of these folks are coming for are the tacos?real sur de la frontera asada and lengua and carnitas assembled in the less-is-more style of the Mexico City street vendor. Two corn tortillas, a bit of perfectly done meat, a sprinkling of onions and cilantro, and that's it. One squeeze of lime and you're good to go. Three bites and you're already wanting more. The rest of Venadita's menu (which includes a few combo plates, some burritos, menudo, enchiladas, and tortas) stacks up well and can provide something more substantial for those with a hunger that can't be bedded down easily, but the tacos remain the real draw?not because they're so different, original, or unique, but simply because they're done right. ?Jason Sheehan 730 N.W.
