For those of you who think Seattle has inadequate public green space, bear in mind that Detroit just had to relinquish stewardship of 77 city parks due to inadequate funding. Cheered up now? Good. So...Seattle has a great park system (schools too, believe it or not, but that's for another day), but only Oxbow Park makes you feel like you're sunning on the set of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. No other film in cinematic history quite captured the kidlike glee adults feel when surrounded by giant cowboy paraphernalia, and Oxbow Park, home to Georgetown's relocated Hat 'n' Boots sculptures, is a real-life rendering of that movie. It's got a p-patch too. Just be sure not to make your shiny red bike the envy of overweight neighbors. Pee-Wee knows all about what happens then. —Mike Seely 6430 Corson Ave. S.
