The psychopath who spent years killing hookers will never again walk the earth as a free man, which means there's really no reason to keep avoiding the Green River. Winding its way northwest through Auburn to the mouth of the Duwamish, much of the infamous body of water is accompanied by a lightly trafficked 20-mile trail that provides a singular perspective of both South King County's industrial muscle and pastoral beauty. There's even a section that's separated by a mere sound wall from Interstate 5. Taken together, river and trail amount to about the only place a native of the Rust Belt can feel right at home. ?Mike Seely
