Comments (0) Best Excuse for Bailing Out of the McGinn Administration - 2010

Shoulder Surgery

"Hey, boss, got a second? OK, good. Um, well, this morning I had shoulder surgery. Yeah, it hurts a lot, and I can't really type with my right hand. What's that? You can get a typist for me? Oh, that's OK?you need that money to hire another consultant. I'll just quit, effective immediately. These couple months have been really awesome. I still get a check for unused vacation time, right?" We have no idea whether this is what former Deputy Mayor Phil Fujii told his boss, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, on his way out the door. But we do know that "shoulder surgery" was the official reason offered by the mayor's office for Fujii's departure. In a long list of first-year fumbles, this explanation remains the most surreal, and entertaining. Fujii is now back at Vulcan. Do over! ?Mike Seely
