iSIFF

The big screen meets the little screen with iSIFF, the breakout download launched during this year's Seattle International Film Festival. Among the pallid tribe of local film geeks, parsing the month-long SIFF lineup has traditionally been an intense ritual involving multicolored pens, bus schedules, and every newspaper published in Seattle. Determining each day's or week's optimal screening strategy was like doing a crossword puzzle or the daily racing form for Emerald Downs. But now all that programming and handicapping fits cleanly in your pocket on the city's favorite gizmo. SIFFgoers can search for titles by director, country, venue, and date, then buy tickets and even map their way to the Harvard Exit. SIFF's Web-based visual mosaic search tool, dubbed SIFFter, is also part of the app. Designed by Seattle company POP, iSIFF was downloaded by 2,400 users. The only caveat? Sometimes it appeared this year that SIFFgoers got more gratification organizing their schedules than watching certain movies.â€"Brian Miller
