Seattle Purly Girls

Knitting is hot, hot, hot with the hipsters. Everyone, it seems, has a scarf they made themselves. Along with that, knitting groups have popped up all over the city. The Seattle Purly Girls are a notch above—first, because of where they meet: the Blue Star Café in Wallingford. Beers make the stitching go better. And second, for the topics of conversation. When you think stitch-and-bitch, images come to mind of women who religiously watch Sex and the City with nothing more interesting to talk about than men. But the Purly Girls take on religion, movies, and politics. There are nurses and grad students, stay-at-home moms, and television news producers. And everyone is happy to help with your latest project.—Laura Onstot
