Best Way to Impress Your Guitar-Player Boyfriend
My boyfriend lives in a perpetual state of being generally unimpressed. So in the rare instance that he raves about something, I listen. Time and again he's given glowing reviews of Chris Hesterman, one of the luthiers at Trading Musician. Locals know that place is amazing on its own, but their luthiers, all of whom come from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, make it the place for picky musicians who might be a little reluctant to hand over "their babies." Hesterman has worked on such notable guitars as Ben Shepherd's Les Paul bass, and can repair anything from a banjo to a mandolin. (Hesterman doesn't do classical instruments—except guitars, of course.) So if you want to impress your jaded b.f., give him the hot tip about Hesterman.—Suzie Rugh
