Best Luggage Repair

Omni

Omni is like one of those old-fashioned shoe-repair places you unexpectedly stumble upon. It always comes as a surprise that someone still does the detailed, labor-intensive work of fixing things that many people would just throw out. Owner Chung Koh, a Korean immigrant, has been fixing luggage and leather goods for 20 years. "I love to sew," she says, explaining how she got into this line of work. With a sewer's eye for detail, Koh appraises every worn suitcase, strapless purse, or malfunctioning briefcase and immediately diagnoses the problem. She'll pull out her containers of buckles, straps, and zippers and find a match. "Ready tomorrow," she'll say. And she'll name a shockingly modest fee that will keep you going back time and again.—Nina Shapiro
