Best Embrace of Blogging by a Politician

Harium Martin-Morris

One month after winning a spot on the Seattle School Board, Harium Martin-Morris decided to subject himself to the overzealous carping and anonymous sniping that is the comments function. His blog began when he posted a quick note about a meeting with the mayor. Several people jumped into the fray asking if the blog would be interactive. He promised it would be, and within a couple of posts, the number of comments broke triple digits. There's a fair amount a back-patting from his readers, but Martin-Morris takes his lumps too; one commenter accused him of ducking questions about plans for some of the struggling southeastern schools. Martin-Morris says he's happy to get the bad with the good as long as people are conveying their concerns to him and sharing ideas and problems with the Seattle Schools. "That's when you know you've been successful," he says.—Laura Onstot
