When the insiders and their people on the County Council are looking to kick back and have a couple of cold ones, no one has to ask where, because those in the know know they're headed to Collins Pub. This slightly upscale, but still decidedly neighborhoody joint is a short jaunt down the hill from the King County Courthouse, ground zero for county pols, consultants, and lobbyists aplenty. And they all feel at home here. The long bar, comfy mini-booths in front, and a labyrinth of tables in the back offer the perfect venue for some casual backslapping and innocent fanning of the rumor mill. The place has sidewalk seating in the summer, decent happy hour specials ($1 off drinks from 4 to 6 p.m.), and a rainbow of beers on tap. It's a hangout, a spot to see and be seen—a place to avoid if you don't want to risk your conversation ending up on one of those snarky political blogs.—Aimee Curl 526 Second Ave., 623-1016, www.thecollinspub.com.
