Comments (1) Best Panini Served to You by a Genuine Italian Man - 2007
Be sure to go in before the lunch rush if you want to snag one of the handmade daily paninis to accompany your perfectly steamed cappuccino at Caffè Senso Unico. The crispy, meaty, cheesy Italian sandwiches are molto bello, as owner Mario Gelmini will tell you. Sip from imported Italian pottery and browse a copy of Vogue Italia while you crunch through the perfectly crisp bread of the "Cristina," featuring grilled portobello mushrooms, thick, fresh mozzarella, and roasted turkey breast. Regardless of the state of your Italian, you'll know what he meant.—Maggie Mertens 622 Olive Way, 264-7611.

Caffe Senso Unico had been recommended by a Seattle friend and it was like going home to our neighborhood cafe in Santa Croce, Firenze. The quality of espresso, pastries and sandwiches were superb. Additionally, Mario is not only fluent in Italian (making for easy conversation), but Serie A Calcio (Italian soccer). Pass on Starbucks and Tully's. If you're looking for a true Italian coffee experience, Caffe Senso Unico is the real thing. Mario grazie mille per la tua ospitalità! Mi spiace che il Milan non è al primo posto! Né è Fiorentina!
