Lesley Hazleton

Bad girl: or was she?

Each chapter of local author Lesley Hazleton’s new book is prefaced with a one-line clue, the first being: “In which Jezebel has gained a reputation.” Everyone will come to Jezebel: The Untold Story of the Bible’s Harlot Queen knowing that she had one, but not necessarily how or why she earned it. Hazleton, who has also written Mary: A Flesh-and-Blood Biography of the Virgin Mother, sheds new light on Jezebel’s misunderstood life, placing it in the context of a powerful political struggle. One that unfortunately leads to “In which the dogs feast.” At Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard St., 7 p.m. Wed., Nov. 7, sponsored by Elliott Bay Book Co. Also at Borders Books, 1501 Fourth Ave., 622-4599, noon, Tues., Nov. 13.
