Golden Grills at the Grammy's

Michael K., the force behind the celebrity gossip page Dlisted, is my absolute favorite filthy-mouthed blogger. From deconstructing the faces of Jessica Simpson's dog, Daisy ("Over it") to exposing tacky British stars that are lesser-known on these shores (Jordan and Peter Andre, anyone?), he does it all with panache. And sometimes, quite a bad attitude. Please check out the above for my favorite of his Grammy commentaries.
Incidentally, our IT department is grill-less, but with mountains of style nonetheless!

Men's Fashion '08: Women's Jeans & Mustaches
Posted Jan. 30 at 10:31 am by Mike SeelyWhat's up with dudes on Capitol Hill wearing women's jeans? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but aren't super tight men's jeans already super tight enough? Same thing for the proliferation of mustaches on these women's jeans-wearing, waiflike he-hipsters: Weren't beards retro-ironic enough? Evidently the answer is no to all of the above. Where do they hide their packages?

With Sales Slow, Madden Meets and Greets
Posted Oct. 27, 2007 at 5:14 pm by Jen Harper
With footwear sales slowing and shoemaker Steve Madden putting itself up for sale, well hot damn, it seemed like the perfect time for Madden himself to make an appearance at Nordstrom at Bellevue Square and sign free T-shirts.
According to Fortune magazine, Americans are bored with what's in the stores now, footwear wise. Where have all the fresh new looks gone? Plus, that global warming thing Al Gore keeps telling us about seems to be having an effect too. According to the magazine, unseasonably warm temps are keeping shoppers from stocking up on boots and other fall footwear.
Anyway, back to Steve: Personally, I'm a fan of Steve Madden, whose shoes I've been rockin' since high school, but I don't think most of the people in this stretched-out-the-door line today were. More than a few people asked, "What is this a line for? Free shoes?" before joining the queue. I stopped a group of 'tweens in line and asked, "Did you come to the mall today because you knew Steve Madden would be here?" "No," they giggled back. "Do any of you have any Steve Madden shoes?" "My sister does," piped up a bubbly redhead. The girls then stepped up to have their picture taken with Mr. Madden by one of the moms in tow.
"We had a lot more people when Mischa Barton was here," offered a Nordstrom employee. "Jenny McCarthy too."
Poor Steve. He didn't seem any the wiser, though, as he munched on brownie bites and signed away. As a dutiful fan, I even wore Steve Madden shoes for the occasion, which is why I think this transpired:
So I'm sitting near the door where SM is to enter the signing, and he walks out in a Lacoste polo with a popped collar, jeans and what a PR gal for the brand said she was "99.5 percent sure" were SM shoes. I'm just sitting there with my little notebook, and he looks at my shoes and then reaches out to me and says, "Hi."
My feet swooned.

Ballard Boutique is Having a Partay Today
Posted Sep. 15, 2007 at 10:19 am by Jen Harper
The one-year-old shoe and frock shop in Ballard is having a birthday party for itself today. Kick It has just what it says in the name — fun kicks. I thought it was a new karate studio when I first saw it, but it's worth a look once you get past the name and exterior. Plus, they're serving cupcakes and champagne 5-8 p.m. today. Bonus.

Euro Gap Has Jumped the Pond
Posted Sep. 3, 2007 at 3:36 pm by Jen Harper
Sure, you've fallen into the Gap before, but have you ever fallen into the European version? I saw the limited edition items from the Gap's European collection online but wasn't able to find them in store. It's noted on the site that the Euro styles have a "slightly slimmer fit" but didn't say how that should affect my ordering. Should I order a full size up?
Guess I'll find out when my order arrives.

H&M is coming! H&M is coming!
Posted Aug. 10, 2007 at 11:09 am by Jen Harper
Pinch me! I must be dreaming! Swedish clothier H&M is coming to University Village in fall 2008. High style and low, low prices right in our own 'hood!
If you haven't heard of H&M by now, crawl out of your bunker and book a flight to San Francisco as soon as possible to get thee to one of San Fran's four (that's right, we have nada; they get four) H&M stores. Or you can just visit the retailer's website, though you can't order online. Bummer.

"Sex" Sells ... On The Big Screen
Posted July 5, 2007 at 8:41 pm by Jen Harper
Dust off those Manolos, and get ready to party like it's 2004 ... because that's the last time we saw this fab female foursome together on television, not counting the TBS reruns.
That's right. The "Sex and the City" movie is a go after three long years of fans thinking it was a lost cause. According to Reuters, the flick will begin shooting this fall with all four of the gal pals — Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis — set to reprise their roles.
New Line Cinema will reportedly finance and distribute the movie, and longtime "Sex and the City" executive producer Michael Patrick King will direct (he also wrote the script) and share role of producer with SJP and series creator Darren Star.
I was so beyond irked when word came three years ago that the film wasn't going to happen because of Kim Cattrall's alleged bitch-fest about not getting paid as much as SJP. Give me a break, Samantha! You weren't the one behind the Mac laptop asking the rhetorical questions in your column that drove the plot of the entire show!
Regardless, everyone's swell now, and I can just get on with the matter at hand — which is how to sneak an entire pitcher of Cosmopolitans into a movie theater. Oh well, I still have a few months to figure it out.

Goodbye to Liz Claiborne, 78
Posted June 27, 2007 at 3:38 pm by Chris Kornelis
The Associated Press is reporting that the fashion icon died yesterday in New York, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Here are a few things about the designer that I did not know:
— Born March 31, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium, she was an only child.
— She won the Jacques Heim National Design Contest, sponsored by Harpers Bazaar, in 1949.
— She and her husband, Art Ortenberg, and Leonard Boxer, founded Liz Claiborne Inc. in 1976.
— Claiborne and Ortenberg sponsored a 350-mile sled-dog race, Race to the Sky, from 1991 to 1994.
— She retired from her company in 1989.

The goods included this bag.
