Pete Wentz Is 'Stoked' To Enhance the Nordstrom Aesthetic
Posted March 18 at 6:19 pm by Laura Onstot
The Fallout Boy bassist and Ashlee Simpson luhva boy announced today that he is collaborating with Nordstrom to release his junior sportswear line: Clandestine Industries. This is the best part of the press release:
"I am stoked to collaborate with Nordstrom," remarks Pete Wentz. "We've always aspired to create one-of-a-kind garments with an aesthetic that warrants national exposure and Nordstrom is the perfect fit."
I'm totally stoked to see these one-of-a-kind garments with their aesthetic that warrants national exposure.
There's been pretty significant fallout in Chicago after the dean of the school I most recently attended was accused of faking a quote to support a controversial program. Where do we come down on totally feeding a quote to someone? (Or maybe Wentz actually says things like "aesthetic that warrants national exposure" all the time and I just need to stop judging him by his eyeliner and silly hats.)

Presidential Style
Posted Sep. 25, 2007 at 2:48 pm by Jonathan Kauffman
Though a freakish-looking man, Glenn O’Brien, the Style Guy for GQ, has a blog jus’ like reglar folks. And on this blog, he recently pulled a Tim Gunn on the presidential candidates—first analyzing the fashion sense of the Republicans, then giving the Democrats sartorial tips. It’s a sharp-tongued analysis of how details like lapel size and bang length can affect a candidate’s image. More than occasionally, it’s also as shallow as you’d hope for. On this picture of Dennis Kucinich, for instance:
His haircut is fairly important, because his ears give him a distinctively elfin appearance. This is not all bad, as elves are empowered to grant wishes, but if his ears look too pointy he tends to look extraterrestrial—possibly Vulcan, like Mr. Spock, with whom he shares a fondness for logic.
And the comparison of today's Al Gore to America's 22nd president is wickedly apt.

Nordstrom Rack is having an inventory sale. TODAY. Not only will you find fabulous fashion (often in the cool, unconventional colors passed up by the masses), but it will be discounted. Twice. If you can think of anything better than twice discounted clothes, shoes, bags and whatnot, please let me know. But go shopping first. The sale only lasts a day.

Lekkerlife Clothing

Though the majority of Gwen Stubbs time might be spent designing and cranking out her own line of adorable clothing, the well rounded indie wonder woman still manages to find time to live the life of a DJ, costume designer, bartender, musician, and ballerina. Truly a jack of all trades, it is no wonder that Lekkerlife Clothing, Stubbs one woman operation, is simply the shit.
Currently, claims Stubbs, Lekkerlife is inspired by 60’s mod, bohemian fashion, DIY aesthetics. Her spring and fall lines might have a bit of a ballerina inspired look, which I am excited to check out. I have been a fan of Lekkerlife for a long time, it's always fun to run into Gwen at some indie craft fair with racks and racks of sweet and stylish creations.
Getting to know the lovely Gwen Stubbs:
AD: Who are your favorite designers?
GS: Jean Patou, Cloe’, Yves St. Laurent, Vivienne Westwood, Missono, and Erte’.
AD: What is your favorite piece of clothing you have designed?
GS: A ballgown I made for my final project at School (Gwen attended the the New York Fashion Acadamy) It was made of three different kinds of silk and had a lot of hand sewn details.
AD: Do you see any gads that you think are NOT good? What are people wearing that is making you cringe?
GS: People really need to pay attention to how clothes fit their bodies. Example: Low rise jeans. If you have hips or any kind of love handle, you shouldn’t wear these. I can’t wait until people catch on to the high-waisted jeans again. (Yes, they are so around the corner of coming back!)
AD: Where can I find your stuff?
GS: I am at 20/20 in Ballard and Garment in Portland right now. I am always looking for new places. I also sell at I heart Rummage and other clothing fairs.

One Dress. A Million Ways to Look Hot.

Bandeau Dress from American Apparel
I really like the concept of sarongs; that one simple piece can be used to create a wide variety of clothing items. The reality is that you have a square piece of fabric, often wildly patterned, that you are supposed to knot in some crazy fashion and then pray that it doesn’t fall off.
So imagine my delight to find this dress from American Apparel. It actually looks like a dress when you buy it and you don’t need to be an origami master to make it look decent. The bodice is fitted and will stay in place without constant supervision.
This dress style can be found at other places, but I would strongly warn against the pantsuit version because, well, it’s a pantsuit. You shouldn’t really need another reason.

If Only We Had More Topless Beaches In Seattle
Posted May 18, 2007 at 2:45 pm by Sarah Grenleaf
Amy is right, in the land of swimwear everything is ugly or so outrageously expensive that it begs the question, why do these cost more than pants?
I have managed to find some cute suits at prices that will allow you to go swimming (or sunning as the case may be) and pay rent.
Topshop has great basic separates in colors that don't make you cringe. Why the Brits, who have such uninviting beaches, make such great suits is beyond me, but the price is so great that I won't ask questions; most pieces are under eight pounds which translates to about 13 dollars. Buying a suit online is a bit daunting, but at under $30 and with a generous return policy the risk is small and the payoff great.
Roxy also makes cute suits although they will cost a tad more. Try the Crystal Cove bikini; it will run you around $85 depending on which separates you choose, but this one is reversible so you really are buying four swimsuits with all the different combinations you can do.
Although most of the suits on figleaves.com are fairly bland, this one will make you a silverscreen starlet faster than you can say, "Daaahling, would you be a dear and get me another drink?"

Sugartown: Vintage for the Body and Mind

Sugartown Vintage
What: Peddlers of second-hand clothes
Where: 2421 Market Street, Ballard
Hours: Nooon to 6 p.m., "most days"
Contact: www.myspace.com/sugartownvintage, 789-1400
Dear VH1,
Please do a special fashion edition of your I Love the 80’s program. Please hire Sugartown owners Amy Hixon and Keri Morris to be commentators just like that Michael Ian Black guy gets to be. You see, these girls know everything about the fashion of the 80’s (and 90’s!) and I think they would really be a good resource for your wonderful program.
Thanks,
Amy D.
Seattle Washington
Ok, so I doubt VH1 cares what I think, but they should.
For example, I walk into Ballard's new second hand hotspot Sugartown, and the lovely ladies behind the counter are looking through Seventeen magazines from the late '80's and having a most factual conversation about the content.
“Is that Laura Palmer?!” Asks Morris, pointing to a make-up ad featuring a pretty blonde girl.
“No, that’s the chick from Valley Girl, she did a lot of Maybelline ads in the Eighties.” Replies Hixon, as Morris gives an “oh that’s right, silly me” style of nod. I mean who knows this stuff?
Are you even hearing me VH1?

What Can $280,000 Get You at Nordstrom?
Posted April 16, 2007 at 4:37 pm by Chris Kornelis
The Seattle P-I reports today that Blake Nordstrom, the president and great-grandson of the company's founder spent $280,000 at the company store last year. Holy shit!
Lucky for Mr. Nordstrom, one of the perks to being president is a steep discount at the brand's various stores, which equaled $92,000 last year.
If he's running through $280,000 at the store, he must be getting a hell of a lot better service in there than I do. I can hardly get an employee to look at me, besides security.
But, I must say, if someone gave me a $280,000 gift card to Nordies, I'd buy 14,000 pairs of the above briefs, by Calvin Klein. Never be without a fresh pair.
