Oscar Marathon in Kent
Posted Feb. 18 at 12:07 pm by Laura Onstot
Mr. Clooney, as Mr. Clayton.
On Saturday, AMC is sponsoring a marathon of all five Oscar contenders. The local event is at Kent Station, costs $30 for admission, and comes with all you can eat popcorn. It will be a lot less inspiring than those Lord of the Rings marathons a couple years ago. From what I understand, no one shoves off to an elven paradise at the end of There Will Be Blood.
But if you're into it, Michael Clayton kicks off the dour festivities at 11 a.m. It's followed by There Will Be Blood at 1:20, Atonement at 4:20. To prevent everyone from attempting to slit their wrists with the movie stubs, the next is Juno at 7. And the Coen brothers round out the bill at 11 with No Country for Old Men. At which point you might want to just call someone to come get you because after more than 12 hours in the dark, subsisting on popcorn with butter-flavored topping and watching people make bad life choices, you will be in no condition to drive.

Lead With the Belly, Follow With the Sword
Posted Nov. 20, 2007 at 2:38 pm by Laura OnstotI went to a screening of "Juno" last night—the new one from the director of "Thank You for Smoking." I adored it from the hilariously adorable title character, something of an edgier Rory Gilmore, to the really sad, but not overwrought finish. Not all screenings are quite so fantastic, but great swag at the entrance can make up for most of the awful, boring, cringe-worthy flicks. Here's the t-shirt they were passing out last night:

Great movie and great swag? I'm totally sold. See it when it opens in Seattle in December, the Most Fruitful Yuki says you must.
