Quarterlife: No Crisis Here
Posted Feb. 26 at 4:43 pm by Jen Harper
My taste in television programming has gone down the tubes since the writer's strike started to take its toll on my regularly scheduled programming. Last night I actually tuned into FOX's The Moment of Truth, only to watch a woman do exactly what the previews told us she would: ruin her marriage by admitting that she cheated on her husband and that she wishes she was actually married to her ex. I felt the need to take a nice long soak in some holy water afterward.
Anyway, the writers are back, baby, and while it's taking a longer time to show its effects for some shows (Gossip Girl, I miss you), one is making its network debut tonight; and I, for one, am so stoked. One word, my friends: quarterlife. It's a show about a twentysomething gal's blog by the creators of my favorite show of all time, My So-Called Life, and thirtysomething.
The show's done the unheard of by making the jump from the web to NBC (it was originally rejected by ABC). It premiers tonight at 10, but the kind folks over at MTV ran 22 minutes of the premier episode this afternoon. Watching the group of quarterlife friends was refreshingly reminiscent of the kiddos in another favorite of mine, the '90s flick Reality Bites—but with slightly less flannel and slightly more showering. Dylan is the writer of the titular blog, which documents the lives of her and her pals, who thankfully aren't all Hollywood perfect (though they do all have nice teeth). And their 20-something plight is slightly more easily solved than most (it's still TV) but still fun to watch. And I think with all the other crap on TV right now (American Gladiators, anyone?) it's definitely worth tuning in.

Local Burlesque Diva on tonight's "Wife Swap"
Posted Jan. 30 at 7:20 pm by Rachel Shimp
Turn on your TV right now!! This lovely lady is Ravenna Black, a fixture on Seattle's burlesque circuit and a Pin-Up Angel (whose charmingly old-school activities include sending care packages to our troops overseas). She's also a real estate agent, a Suquamish mother of two, and a participant on tonight's airing of the reality series "Wife Swap," reports the Kitsap Sun.
Ravenna (nee Sarina McDonald) is an open, free spirit, and she travels to upstate NY to swap experiences (but not beds) with the wife of a lumberjack! She sent me an e-mail saying she's not nervous to see it play out on TV, and that she did "fine," but I'm eager to see what trials and tribulations life in the country placed on her. I caught my first episode of this show last week and it looked like an absolute nightmare. But if anyone can prevail in a situation like this, a representative from our local BQ community—known for its verve and ingenuity—can do it.
Ravenna's "Wife Swap" begins at 8 p.m. on ABC.

If circumstances (sold-out tickets, "near-blizzard conditions" or power outages in Southwestern British Columbia) prevented you from making it to Vancouver on Sunday to see the opening night of the Spice Girls comeback tour, dry your tears — tonight you have another chance to see girl power in action.
The girls, who performed together Sunday for the first time since Geri Halliwell left the group in 1998, have been receiving rave reviews for the first two stops on their reunion tour, and have cropped up in all manner of amateur videos online. Fuzzy camera phone videos on Youtube, stand aside — tonight hungry fans can watch a 1930s and 1940s-themed two-song performance during the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Other performers include will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and Seal. Watch it tonight at 10 p.m. on CBS.

I "Heart" Netflix

Our television reception is bad - no HDTV satellite mumbo jumbo at our house. So I'm catching up on the last season of the greatest show, possibly ever, Boston Legal. It's basically Ally McBeal with fewer victims and more old/fat/psycho people. And William Shatner.
The fourth to last show of Season 3 features very innuendo (and not-so-innuendo) laden exchanges between a slightly more portly James Spader (series star) and the Stephen Sondheim muse Bernadette Peters (guest). They both have sunken eyes, oddly shaped mouths and are undeniably past their prime.
So why was it so darn sexy?
Put it in your Netflix queue. And if you buy into this newfangled technology cable crap, it's on ABC Tuesdays at 10.
