Seattle has claimed yet another victory over San Francisco and it’s not even football season yet.
A NerdWallet report has ranked the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area as the second best place for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. Only the Silicon Valley region ranks higher.
According to Geekwire, San Francisco’s higher salaries weren’t enough to lift the city above fifth place:
San Francisco boasts a six-figure mean wage for STEM jobs, $101,280, but the city’s overall score is hurt by factors including a median gross rent of $1,399, compared with $1,079 in Seattle. That puts San Francisco in fifth place in the overall rankings.
Last year, NerdWallet ranked Seattle the seventh best area for STEM graduates, three spots below San Francisco. What a difference a year makes.
