Kick off the start of summer at the Roadrunner Sports Fremont 5k & Briefcase Relay on the evening of June 6th. Run or walk the certified, fast 5k or put together a five-person team for the costumed Briefcase Relay. Then enjoy post-race festivities at the Super Friends Beer Garden.

Seattle Weekly Green Card is proud to sponsor Planet Cinema. For decades, narrative filmmakers have been telling stories set in a dystopian future with a shredded atmosphere, rising seas, and extreme weather shifts. These elements of climate change are no longer the exclusive province of science fiction. They are fact. However, the undesirable effects of this new reality can be blunted by immediate action and SIFF is committed to being part of that initiative. Planet Cinema, a landmark series of excellent new films drawn from every genre–documentary, drama, experimental, and horror–that speak to humanity’s relationship with global ecology. The independent film community boasts a bold tradition of using the camera to confront and ignite public action around the most pressing issues of our time. This year the green-centric selections address the global dependence on oil, our love-hate relationship with water, the struggles behind building green housing and a sci-fi twist on post-global warming. These films take audiences to every corner of the planet and show, not just tell, viewers the contradictions and struggles of a changing Earth.
