Tour de Fat

With the Burke-Gilman Trail to take you there, don’t show up at the Tour de Fat in your car. The all-day, all-bicycle celebration culminates with a “Car Bike Swap,” where one lucky essayist gets the chance to trade his or her old beater for a custom-built commuter bike. Event sponsor New Belgium Brewing also sells beer during the shindig (with proceeds going to charity). After the participatory opening pedal-parade, there are various competitions, juggling acts, and live music including Paperbird and the March Fourth Marching Band. The good-natured, family-friendly event even has its own Ten Commandments—which do not, thankfully, exclude beer (the kegs will be tapped at noon). But as the organizers say, it’s a bicycle festival with beer, not the other way around. Gas Works Park, 2101 N. Northlake Way, 684-4075, www.tour-de-fat.com. Free ($5 for beer). 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
