French Montana’s stammering “This the intro” in the intro (called “Intro”) of last year’s Mac & Cheese 3 mixtape is a pretty telling moment for the Bronx rapper. “This is mainstream rap,” he could lead in on one of his other songs; or “Here comes a cliched cocaine reference followed by a gun-cocking sound effect and a horribly misogynistic hook!” At least that way you could get a quick synopsis of a song without having to listen to it. Not to be overly negative or snarky, but in the past few years the guy’s been signed to or flirted with practically every major rap label, which isn’t really surprising but still irks the soul a bit. After years of climbing the mixtape pile, his debut album, Excuse My French, will be released on Bad Boy on May 21—unfortunately too late for this show, but not too late to preface with a snide preview. With Chinx Drugs. Crocodile, 2200 Second Ave, 441-4618. 8 p.m. $20. All ages.
