Tomato Battle

In case you missed out on lunchroom food fights in grade school, there’s still a chance to experience the sensation of edible goo dripping all over you. In what promises to be the food fight to end all food fights, the Tomato Battle will provide 40,000 pounds of tomatoes for attendees to pummel and pellet their friends into a near marinara mess. The tomatoes used will be overripe and local farm surplus fruit, to ease your eco-conscious worries, and means they are probably better used as ketchup-like weapons. Before the battle begins (at 4 p.m.), enjoy live music, an all-you-can drink beer garden (part of the ticket price), and costume contest. Last year’s battle, inspired by the La Tomatina festival in Buñol, Spain, drew some 2,500 combatants. Remember to bring eye protection and a change of clothes—plus a jar, if you want to take some of the sauce home with you. (21 and over.) ALLSION THOMASSEAU
