Bass Drum of Death

If you like tawdry combinations of raw sexual energy and cheeky, off the meter smarts, meet your sweet new faves, John Barrett’s Bass Drum of Death. Mississippi bred and Fat Possum approved, this duo gloriously pillages the likes of White Stripes and Nirvana, all while reverently referencing The Kinks, the BJM, and George Harrison for the most refreshing sound I’ve heard this year. The combo of Barrett’s artfully gifted guitar playing and Collin Sneed’s simple percussion and most importantly, dance machine (like a punk rock Jerome to Barrett’s Morris Day) have produced the N1H1 of singles “Stain, Stick, Skin,” whose closing chant “The celebration ain’t televised” will be in your head for weeks.
