Artists for Japan

Shop for a cause at this weekend event, in which the Murakami family (owners of Higo), will match up to $10,000 in sales to benefit the victims of Japan's earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor catastrophe. On sale will be paintings, drawings, calligraphy, sumi-e, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, prints, and more. Local artists will include Toshi Asai, CT Chew, Etsuko Ichikawa, Sean Frego, Elizabeth Jameson, Anita Lehmann, Akiko Masker, Naomi Mittet, Saya Moriyasu, Haruko Nishimura, Yuko Otoku, Tommer Peterson, Dorothy Rissman, Chiyo Sanada, Norie Sato, Tamae Satsu, Roger Shimomura, the estate of the late George Tsutakawa, Mugi Takei, Mizue Trinidad, Patti Warashina, Junko Yamamoto, and Ellen Ziegler (with others expected). It'll be like a weekend arts and crafts fair, and a worthy occasion to reach for your wallet--rather than watching the misery on CNN. BRIAN MILLER
