Peter Hook

Performing Joy Division’s seminal debut album, 1979’s Unknown Pleasures, without Ian Curtis seems a bit like re-shooting Rebel Without a Cause minus James Dean -- Curtis’ possessed stage presence and booming baritone are just about inimitable, let alone replaceable. But if someone’s got to do it, it might as well be Joy Division’s founding bassist Peter Hook. Along with his band The Light, Hooky’s performing the album across the country to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Curtis’ suicide. It’s as good a chance as any to hear “She’s Lost Control” and “Disorder” live, ‘cause Curtis sure ain’t coming back any time soon to do it. ERIN K. THOMPSON
