Two years ago, my six-month-old Chihuahua suffered the indignity of being stepped on. By her owner. Pinky cried. I cried. The veterinarian told me she had a broken leg that would cost $600 to fix. I cried some more. Today, Pinky’s four legs are intact. That makes us plenty qualified to participate in the annual PAWS Walk. All pet owners need to do is register Fido via the PAWS Web site ($25 recommended), then convince a couple of friends to sponsor them. Proceeds from the 5K charity jaunt benefit homeless animals in need of shelter and/or rehabilitation. Plenty of rest stops, water breaks, and even a shortcut will be available so that all participants--including Pinky--can make it across the finish line and help their furry friends. ERIKA HOBART
