Malou Bergman and Nadja Ekman

Primarily working in large-format photography these two Swedish artists are part of an exchange program with the Candyland gallery in Stockholm. Their images are packed with colorful costumes, animals, and digital manipulation. In a series by Ekman, multiples of the same woman in a bright red dress cavorts with cattle on a beach. Bergman adorns a Mexican-style saint with condoms inflated like balloons. Elsewhere, a woman wears a camel’s head as a hat. “Female identity” is the putative subject, but female dreams seem more like it. Companion videos are whimsical and comic. BRIAN MILLER
