Soft Time

Prison’s got no allure for the Colacurcios. A deal may be in the offing.

With their nudie dance clubs closed and their fellow defendants having all pleaded guilty, stripper king Frank Colacurcio Sr. and son Frankie are currently discussing pleas to the government's racketeering and prostitution charges, according to attorneys indirectly involved in the case, with a decision likely to be made this week. "They're talking, that's all I can say," said one attorney. Frank's attorney Irwin Schwartz didn't respond to e-mail and phone messages, and Frankie's attorney Margaret Pak had no comment.

Trial is still set for next January, and the Colacurcios were to have filed pretrial motions by a May 7 deadline. That was recently extended to May 14. Last Friday, the deadline was again extended, to this Friday, to "consider the nature of the motions they may file," according to court papers.

Staring at his eighth felony and sixth prison tour in seven decades, Seattle's long-reigning crime boss turns 93 next month, and might have lost his inclination to do time. "What's prison got to offer?" says an attorney. "No women and lots of stairs."
