Bring a date and sing along to Baz Luhrmann's 2001 musical, whose numbers include "Diamond Dogs," "The Sound of Music," "Like a Virgin," and other curios. The flamboyant, cartoonish, often headache-inducing movie has maybe a thousand musical cues that trigger samples, cover versions, and bits of original songs, yet he does his cribbing with a loving wink. In 1899 Paris, a naïve aspiring writer (Ewan McGregor) is enchanted by a glamorous chanteuse (Nicole Kidman). Purportedly a film about love, Moulins really about Luhrmanns love of show biz (which outlasts both love and life). 21 and over. (PG-13) BRIAN MILLER
