Everything is cooler with lasers. In the "A to Z" group show of new gallery artists, Iole Alessandrini uses green lasers to capture blurry-portraits-in motion. Instead of the crisp precision we expect from scientific applications, these lasers create a sine-wave impression of their subjects. They're not TSA full-body scans, but smeared likenesses. Nearby, she cleverly presents a triptych portrait of florescent lighting tubes, but it's a trompe l'oeil: The tubes aren't there, and the light source remains hidden within the boxes. The illumination has been obscured. Also on view: Julie Alpert's cute assemblage of cardboard and other cast-offs; and Ellen Ziegler's shadows cast by etched and mirrored glass panels. BRIAN MILLER
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Jan. 6. Continues through Jan. 30, 2010
