Monty Python and the Holy Grail

There are six names guaranteed to make you laugh in Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Arthurian legends have never been treated with such impudent silliness as in Monty Python’s 1975 geek comedy classic, lately turned a Broadway smash. Substituting coconut shells to clip-clop in place of actual horses, playing multiple characters each, the Pythons merrily run amok through Camelot and other mythic locales. Cleese playing the French tower guard remains a highlight among highlights; don’t pretend you don’t already know all the lines. As they say, “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!” Appropriately, this is being billed as the quote-along edition of the film, so go ahead and blurt out your favorite lines. (PG-13) BRIAN MILLER
