While the members of prog-folk-rock quartet Martingale draw heavily on influences like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Wilco, its members have made sure to keep focused on their craft, honing their technical skills in jazz bands and orchestra pits. And though three of the four had played together for years as Blueswood Fiction, the introduction of a new drummer to the band instigated a new name and a fresh sound that’s just a little jazzy. Guitarist Nick Iverson coaxes melodies and riffs that seem to regularly hop into the driver’s seat and steal away, though he’s always followed closely by Ryan Shaw’s bass. Though they’re no strangers to the stage, this High Dive appearance is Martingale’s first headlining gig, and you should probably go see it. Scotch may or may not be involved.
