Golden Animals

Friday, April 10

The ’70s psych-rock bandwagon sure has been getting crowded lately, what with all the Black Angels and Spindrifts and Brightblack Morning Lights out there, but there’s still room for Golden Animals, a two-piece that takes on the genre with sunny, Southern California charm. The band’s first full-length, Free Your Mind and Win a Pony, is an album of carefree surf psychedelia that’ll appeal to all the late-born hippies who couldn’t be happier about the indie scene’s sudden influx of poncho-wearing, teepee-dwelling, Doors worshippers. Guitarist Tommy Eisner, who’s a vocal dead ringer for Jim Morrison, and drummer Linda Beecroft produce a surprisingly rich, full sound despite the group’s minimal staffing.
