2008 marks the 20th anniversary of Mudhoney and Sub Pop. It’s also the two-decade point for another ’90s alt-rock concern, The Supersuckers. Grunge is officially old, though the Supersuckers were never very “grunge” to begin with. But that didn’t stop the public from lumping the Seattle via Tucson quartet in that category. Like many local bands at the time, they were loud, skuzzy, signed to Sub Pop, and weaned on Motorhead and CCR. But unlike most local bands at the time, they were indebted to twang and boozy good times. No brooding melancholy for these boys; their debut album The Smoke of Hell was a high-octane-all-American-accelerator-to-the-floor-hot-rod joyride. Through the ’90s, they rode like flannel cowboys, greasemonkeys with Thin Lizzy LPs tucked under their arms, and a half-serious belief in the myths of rock ‘n’ roll. They’ve since upped the country flavor in their sound, and their latest album, Get It Together, sounds like finely crafted Midwestern bar rock (I mean that as a compliment). It’s blazing, raging, and whiskey-soaked. This 20th-anniversary bash promises to be the same, especially considering the friends they enlisted to help out: Brash hardcore icons ZEKE will open, followed by a return appearance of the reunited (and still mind-blowing) local legends Green River. So, you can wear your flannel, but only if it’s the one you like to spill beer on. Showbox at the Market, 1426 First Ave., 628-3151, www.showboxonline.com. $20 (all ages). 8 p.m. BRIAN J. BARR
