Dub Trio

Monday, December 1

Three session and touring musicians extraordinaire (guitarist DP Holmes, bassist Stu Brooks and drummer Joe Tomino) -- musicians who've collectively worked with the likes of Tupac Shakur, Mike Patton, 50 Cent, Mos Def, and scads of others -- comprise Brooklyn instrumental outfit Dub Trio, which mixes spacey, psychedelic dub with heroic doses of metal and touches of math-rock, jazz, funk, stoner rock and skittery electronics. The band's chops can’t be disputed, but rather than substitute technical wizardry for good ol' songs and emotion, leaving the listener cold, Dub Trio attacks with crushing riffs, frenzied rhythms and whiplash shifts that can take your breath away like a fist to the gut, right before chilling you out with trippy grooves and billowy, shoegazerish passages.
