Frank Rich

Nice timing, Frank. After the Democratic sweep last week, New York Times columnist Frank Rich should have plenty to say tonight about the outgoing GOP. His Sunday op-ed pieces have become ever more pointed and despairing as Dubya drove our country into the ditch (first Iraq, then the economy). For reference beyond your weekly NYT fix, see last year’s collection The Greatest Story Ever Sold: The Decline and Fall of Truth in Bush’s America (Penguin, $15). Formerly a Pulitzer-winning theater critic, Rich has been unsparing on the present administration’s “mission accomplished” stagecraft and script (written by Karl Rove). So he and those attending this event should feel pretty good about Barack Obama and the broom he’s bringing to Washington. But after eight years of scorn, I would ask this forward-looking question of Rich: What next? Temple De Hirsch Sinai, 1441 16th Ave., www.tdhs-nw.org. Free. 7 p.m. BRIAN MILLER
