Tom Price Desert Classic, Bricklane

Saturday, November 1

Seattle guitar fixture Tom Price is a master of his instrument; you might know him from his involvement in seminal Seattle garage bands like Monkeywrench, Gas Huffer and U-Men. Those projects are defunct now (eight years later, we’re still waiting on that next Monkeywrench album), but Price has a new band, Tom Price Desert Classic, that made its triumphant debut at the Fantagraphics bookstore’s one-year anniversary party last year. You can watch that show in chunks (more aptly, you can listen to it; the visuals are hit or miss) in a series of videos on YouTube. Even if you’ve never heard of Price before, any guitar enthusiast will appreciate how Price kneads in psychedelic guitar work to the garage rock that’s been his bread and butter. They’ll be joined by Bricklane, a ’60s-esque psychedelic project that contains current Mudhoney bassist Guy Maddison and sounds like Johnny Cash might if he covered the Velvet Underground.
