James Traub

A contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine, he has a few choice things to say about the current administration in The Freedom Agenda Why America Must Spread Democracy (Just Not the Way George Bush Did). Among them, "The United States did not go to war in Iraq in order to democratize the Middle East." And also: "We have had only one foreign policy since 9/11. And that policy has been shaped by the fear and anger and sense of vulnerability provoked by that horror, and by the ways in which President Bush and his team have responded to, and exploited, that national mood."
