Cynthia Consentino and Buddy Bunting: Stalemate

More About

In her sculptures, Massachusetts-based Cynthia Consentino pairs diminutive girls’ torsos with snarling wolf heads and grafts impish boy faces onto docile rabbits’ bodies. These figures offer a provocative (and totally creepy) exploration of what influences children’s notions of gender and body typology. Also on view in “Stalemate,” her Seattle counterpart Buddy Bunting opts for a less analytic, more carefree approach to prepubescence. He recreates his boyhood glory days with larger-than-life blackwash paintings of motorcycles and trucks applied directly onto walls. (Awesome!) This exhibition (through Nov. 12) brings two dramatically different artists’ works into one room without making any attempt to synthesize them. They’re as different as XX and XY. Kirkland Arts Center, 620 Market St., 425-822-7161, www.kirklandartscenter.org. Free. 11 a.m.–6 p.m. ERIKA HOBART
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 13. Continues through Nov. 12, 2008
