Santogold

Published on October 01, 2008 at 5:02am

Santogold (a.k.a. Santi White) slammed music critics for being racist earlier this year, claiming they labeled her music as hip-hop because she was black. (To be fair, her collaborations with N.E.R.D. and Spank Rock fall into the genre.) However, the majority of her eponymous debut album sounds like a hot ’80s mess of dance-pop, new wave, and punk. If Billy Idol, Blondie, and M.I.A. had a threesome, their love child would be Santogold. The outspoken singer with the banshee wail is preceded tonight by Mates of State and Low vs. Diamond. Showbox SoDo, 1700 First Ave. S., 652-9444, www.showboxonline.com. $22.50-$25. 8 p.m. ERIKA HOBART
