Kitsap Color Classic
Published on October 01, 2008 at 5:01am
If youre a serious cyclist and tip the scales at around 140 lbs., youll burn more than 1,000 calories pedaling hard for an hour. So at the annual Kitsap Color Classic bike ride, sponsors have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Edmonds starting line for $6. (You can also start on the Kingston side.) At more than 100 calories per pancake, youll need quite a few flapjacks to complete the events various loops, ranging from 14 milesideal for kids and familiesall the way up to a super-sized 64 miles. For the latter, you could down a Michael Phelps-like portion of 25 pancakes and still burn off the calories. Please be aware: The course is not flat (23 miles are uphill), and vomiting over your shoulder while passing could get, well, messy. Edmonds Masonic Lodge, 515 Dayton St., 522-3222, www.cascade.org. $20-$30. 7:30 a.m. (registration starts); ferries depart at 8:40, 9:20, and 10:10 a.m. JOSHUA LYNCH
