Rancid, Less Than Jake (sold out)

Friday, September 12

My babysitter was my first main music influence in elementary and middle school, and despite my initial Fresh Prince leanings, she quickly turned me on to ska and punk rawk. I may not have understood all the lyrics, but I sure loved the energy. And now, years later, I can now claim to understand the songs and have the chance to see two of my favorites — Rancid and Less Than Jake — together! Though they’ve both been around since the early ’90s, the bands are still going strong, selling out shows and making new music: Rancid’s first album since 2003 is expected to drop in September, and LTJ just put out a new album — surprise! It’s about Florida! — titled GNV FLA. The Showbox might not scream “punk venue,” but for a fresh twist on some punk icons it should serve perfectly. Give ’em the boot! The roots! The radicals!
