As Scientology Expands, So Do Its Naysayers

Masked protesters are taking to Seattle streets as the church eyes new facilities downtown and in lower Queen Anne.

Motorists stuck on Mercer Street this summer have been treated to an odd overhead sight as they crawl under Aurora Avenue toward I-5. Wielding banners and signs, a small band of protesters has appeared on certain evenings, waving at drivers below and encouraging them to honk if they hate Xenu. On other nights, farther west in the Uptown neighborhood, the same merry pranksters have shown up outside an empty old office building declaring their opposition to thetans and federal tax exemptions. Other times they march to Westlake or Seattle Center to hand out flyers. Always they conceal their faces with bandannas and masks—often the smiling white plastic visage of Guy Fawkes from the Wachowski brothers' movie V for Vendetta (which concerns a heroic rebel band fighting against a totalitarian state).

Xenu, you may recall, is the malign alien ruler who, in Church of Scientology doctrine (codified in the 1950s), scattered the unhappy souls of extraterrestrials among us earthlings 75 million years ago, creating a host of mental problems that cannot be solved by modern psychiatry or pharmacology. And now, following a notorious Tom Cruise video released earlier this year and a certain prior South Park episode, Scientology finds itself the target of a new generation of activists who have declared this coming Saturday, August 16, to be their next worldwide Scientology protest day. Hundreds are expected to participate in Seattle, where the publicity-shy church is undertaking a major expansion into new facilities in lower Queen Anne and downtown.

Their organization—many of them, actually, self-organized and leaderless on the Web—is called Anonymous. Its Seattle members preferred to remain just that during recent meetings with the Weekly; instead they go by their screen names.

During a recent meet-up in Redmond, a smart mob of Anonymous members gathered to spray-paint a wall by the local skate park (with city permission). The friendly, boisterous gang—median age about 20—numbered around a dozen; matching their unmasked faces to their screen avatars can make it difficult to assign quotes to exact parties. Still, they feel passionate about their new cause, opposing the controversial church—which includes Dianetics, Narconon, and other arms—that charges its members thousands of dollars to be audited and made "clear" of alien particles.

Yet, strangely, none of these young activists are disgruntled former members of the church.

"Not a whole lot of us are like, 'This affected me personally,'" says AnotherSP. (SP in Scientology speak means Suppressive Personality, i.e., an enemy of the religion and its tenets.) Only one among the spray-painting party described a parent's prior involvement with Scientology. According to AnotherSP, "A lot of the ex-members are older. The forums inherently attract younger members."

The "forums" include Web sites such as www.enturbulation.org (at the national level) and www.lulznw.com (the Seattle chapter), which either launched or saw huge traffic spikes after the Cruise video went up on YouTube. ("We are the authorities in getting people off drugs," raves the actor on a cheap set with bad lighting, an '80s guitar sample blaring in a soundtrack loop behind him. "We are the authorities on the mind. We are the authorities on improving conditions. Criminals, we can rehabilitate criminals.") Attracting roughly equal attention was South Park's 2005 "Trapped in the Closet" episode, which provided a cartoon thumbnail history of the religion and introduced Xenu to kids who were in diapers when Risky Business came out. (Fun fact: South Park co-creator Trey Parker owns a condo here in Seattle.)

The Seattle version of Anonymous is "only four months old," says an individual known as Anon, He Mussed, who at 30 is something of an elder spokesman for the group. "Kind of like the Battle in Seattle. It's all self-initiative. It just started with a few cities, like a Google group." He claims that roughly 150 protesters participated in an April Anonymous event, which included a march to the Pike Place Market. In a March event to commemorate the birthday of L. Ron Hubbard, the late sci-fi writer and Scientology founder, he guesses 250 people took part. Come Saturday, when the group is planning another protest march, they're hoping for even higher numbers.

The group's hallmark, other than the masks, is a carnivalesque approach to protesting and pamphleting—no angry tirades or rock-throwing. "We're always on city property," says anonyk23. "We let the cops know. Always adhere to the law—we follow that rule." (The church disputes this.)

But why Scientology? Why not protest the Iraq War? The situation in Darfur? Or the Catholic church? Anon, He Mussed responds, "We all have our own individual activist causes, but Anonymous is for this."

According to a local church-affiliated Web site, L. Ron Hubbard lived briefly in Seattle, attending Queen Anne High School, during the 1920s while following his father, a Navy man, from port to port. Residing in Port Orchard during the late '30s, he wrote a few of his early Scientology texts, some prompted by a supposedly near-death experience at a Bremerton dentist in 1938.

Now members of his church may soon be able to look out on the same body of water that inspired Hubbard. In 2005, the Scientologists bought an old state-government building in lower Queen Anne for $3.7 million. According to drawings and a description on the local Scientologists' Web site, the building eventually will be equipped with a rooftop deck "looking out over Puget Sound where LRH used to live and write—a perfect place for pcs and students to go during session and course breaks, as well as for dissemination activities and events." (A "pc" is a "preclear," explains Seattle Scientology Reverend Ann Pearce, "a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming clear.")

WARNING!!! SCIENTOLOGYS RONBOTS KILL WARNING!!! SCIENTOLOGYS RONBOTS DIVIDE AND DESTROY LOVE AND HOMES Power Comes From Knowledge of The Enemy Ronbot is a pejorative term for some or all fanatical followers of Scientology. The term is a pun on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's first name and the word robot. The term Ronbot is meant to express the habit of Scientologists of being so programmed with the "Tech" that they can't express their own viewpoints on life, because that has been suppressed and prohibited of them from doing so. The fanatical Ronbot never doubts any thing he is told by staff, never investigates, never thinks beyond what he is told, never seeks to know more than he is permitted to know, never refuses to turn on his family, never reads what he is told not to read, never refuses to hurt the feelings of his family, never refuses to kill the love he had for his family, never refuses to go to your neighbors to spread lies about you, never doubts PTS or SP data, never seeks other ways to heal any symptom, never wonders why he is so fanatical and why? Never wonders why he hates SPs, never refuses to hurt, damage or harm an SP, never doubts he is superior to us, never refuses to obey his masters on staff, etc. The fanatical Ronbots that guard the military bases and navy of Scientology are ordered to kill or shoot at any SP or ordinary intruder that comes near or invades their ships or bases, even if it is their own parents who go there to get them out. He is so robotic that the killing of his own parent will not produce the same mental effect that it would produce in us if we killed our own father or mother, whose only crime was the hurt of disconnection ordered by the Anti-God cult. Ex-scientologists view a fanatical anti-god Ronbot as a brainwashed Robot, since he can't ever leave the Tech and express his own view points. His reading material, his TV viewing and his interpersonal relationships and what he says and the way he talks, are closely monitored by other Ronbot Staff. If they discover that he went out with or talked with an SP and read material from Anti-cult websites, he is in deep trouble and must now face an ethics review. He in fact does not have his own viewpoints, but just thinks so. His mind is so flooded with the Tech that to speak to, associate with, date or love a person who is classed as an SP is instant insanity (drastic down-tone slide) and he will be classed by the Anti-God Cult as a risk or PTS. Remember this factthat all true fanatical Ronbots have a weak mind and spirit, no matter their IQ or years of word clearing. They are actually very willing to be a slave of the Tech without question. In the CULT OF SCIENTOLOGY YOU HAVE NO CONSTITUTION RIGHTS SUCH AS FREE SPEECH you are told what to think, do and say. Your actions, your friends your relations, your books, and everything else you can think about is RESTRICTED to their approval. In the CULT OF SCIENTOLOGY YOU HAVE NO CONSTITUTION RIGHTS OR CIVIL RIGHTS SUCH AS THE RIGHT TO MEDICAL CARE OF YOUR OWN CHOOSING -- IF YOU ARE SICK IN ANY WAY. YOU ARE PROHIBITED BECAUSE YOU ARE CLASSED AS A PTS PERSON AND AS SUCH, YOU HAVE NO FREEDOMS. YOU ARE NOT A FREE MAN OR WOMAN,ABLE to do as you please at home, read what you please at home, your home TV set has a little censorship lock on it placed there by the cult to keep you inline. Even your thoughts and innermost secrets are investigated and if they are considered wrong or un-approved by your ETHICS OFFICER you are taken (scammed) for more money. The fanatical Ronbot was told that "suppression is illness and illness is suppression", therefore he thinks that all illnesses come only from suppression or a PTS condition. Remember that Ronbots are told that all illnesses to a greater or lesser degree are due to only a PTS condition. Any illness or symptom makes a fanatical Ronbot turn on anyone he was near in the past 72 hours. He is programmed to believe that his Mother or Father now is a Monster called aSP or Suppressive Person. He is never given the facts on symptom re-stimulations. He is never told about it being a physiological reaction, he is never told that all symptoms and illnesses are physiological reactions and that some symptoms can be re-stimulated by stress and arguments. And those symptoms are never the same for all; because every one has different deficiencies and different levels of toxins in their body that will always bring out a different symptom each time he is argued with. Remember this one fact that Scientology rejectssymptoms are not illnesses! But Ronbots are never taught the true causes of real illnesses, and are trained to despise their parents when they get a symptom of a real illness. Symptoms can be re-stimulated by many real causes of illnesses even by stresswhich in the cult is accepted by the brain-washed ronbots as suppression. Scientology NEVER teaches Ronbots that symptoms are really physiological reactions of all life on Earth. A physiological reaction is an effect of some cause. The real causes of all illnesses produce the symptom. They use this brain-washing about symptoms, in order to control them and make them hate whoever opposes the cult. In his weak fanatical brain-washed mind, he can't ever accept that legal and illegal drugs, chemicals, parasites, toxins, toxic plants, mutated foods, Nuked (irradiated) Foods, or poisonous animals or insects, poisons, viruses or bacteria or over acidity etc., are the only and true causes of illnesses in the world. His mind rejects these well known facts as SP propaganda. When he faces you in the streethe cant see you, he can only see what is programmed into his brain-washed head. To him, you are the SP monster who is no better than his SP father or SP mother he turned his back on and now hates and/or distrusts. He is not free to think for himself--therefore he is a ronbot. It is senseless to argue or fight with a Ronbothe needs de-programminghe needs to be told he is a Robot and that he cant pull the plug and reset his brain. Do not confront, argue or fight a Ronbot the old way just pity him and dare him to talk with you about how Physiological Reactions are connected to study tech. Dare him to have a friendly conversation with youthe more of a Ronbot he is the more he will be afraid to go to ethics for daring to talk with an SP. The fact that is easily proved is that he is really SCARED to have a friendly conversation with you to him you are a suppressive person to him you are a MONSTER the kind of monster his cowardly mind could not face in his nightmares. The Anti-God cult will threaten any person with total exposure of all their confessed sins and secrets, if you dare leave, EXPOSE or confront them. That is the weapon that controls ALL CELEBRITIES, PROFESSIONALS AND COWARDS. The weak have given up their soul and now find that their confessions of their own sins and deep dark secrets -- will be made public knowledge. In every confrontation with Ronbots, the programming that he has received will force him to ask for your crimes and sins and secrets. He sincerely believes that you are against the Cult, ONLY because you have committed horrible crimes, called by them: sins of omission and commission. He expects you to be up-set, so just explain to him that he has sins and secrets too and that you would like to know his first, since he brought up the issue first. But dont ask to hear them as a threat or condition to talk with himif he refuses to give you his own sins and secretslet it pass as long as he is willing to talk with you. Just get him to talk!!! Admit you have some sins, but dare to talk about his!!! Warning!!! The Ronbot is trained to illegally set-you up as per SP policy and fair game rules and be able to call for the police to get you arrested. If he attacks you or looks like he will, turn your back and let him attack you when your back is turned. Put your hands in your pockets and never let them out. If you are going up against them, have the incident filmed and documented. He will viciously insult you and scream at you and even bump and push you with his stomach or chest to make you lose control and get arrested. When he bumps you just fall down and call for the police, because he has just assaulted you and caused you to fall and hurt yourself. Fact is that if your stomach pushed a cop, you would be arrested, right? Well, commercially it is an assault!!! Do not argue with or insult a Ronbot, talk with him in a polite way even if he disgusts you. Arguments are commercial Controversies and make you lose the game. Get him to identify who he is and find out if he has property (House) or a website. He if is connected to any website that libels your actual name on ithe just made you rich. If he assaults you and you can prove it he also made you very rich. Read the Uniform Commercial Code, commercial laws or common law remedies, Commercial Affidavit of Truth Method, notary acceptor and look up sovereignty UCC or anti-corruption websites to learn how to counter-attack them and take them for all they are worth. After you study the UCC, hire a Private Investigator to find out who owns or runs the website. Write them thru a Notary third party witness and accept all their attacks on your name for value. That is the way to become a true RONBOTHUNTER. Thru the Commercial Affidavit of Truth Method -- You can bring your common-law commercial suits against any Ronbot and the Cult itself, who is used by the Cult to harm you. Under the Constitution You are the Law. You dont need attorneys or judges or courts to file a UCC lien on them -- once you PERFECT your UCC lien. Know this for a fact. -- His brain is not his anymore. He cant be proactive and dare to talk with a person who he was told is a MONSTER. But if he dares to talk and you only ask questions and never argue with him. He will begin to doubt and you know what happens to him after he is in the Condition of Doubt. He is as evolved as a snail-or he was one in another life. In this life, he consented to be a mind-slave. Just dare him to read and dare him to talk with any anti-cult person on a friendly basis for at least one hourdare him to get to know you--by then after that hour he is now a damaged ronbot to the culthe wont be trusted and now he is on his way to freedom from control. For you to defeat the Anti-God Church of Scientology you must expose these truths about how Ron discovered Study Technology. Once you put this NEW DATA into his brain, he is now damaged goods and is no longer a Ronbot, but a suspected PTS person never to be trusted again by the Cult. To save a RONBOT BRAIN you must deprogram it with NEW DATA. Also: When's the last time you've seen a Christian minister manning a "Stress Test" table? When's the last time you've seen a Rabbi hand out a "Personality Quiz" and require the recipient come to Temple and buy a book or a sermon in order to correct flaws in their life? When have you heard of a Guru SEC CHECKING someone on the path to enlightenment? When's the last time you've heard of anyone being MADE to confess their overts or witholds to a member of the clergy and the clergy WRITING THE CONFESSION DOWN to put in their file? When have you heard of religions keeping FILES on it's members at ALL? What about the policy of disconnection? PTS/SP? You're to tell me that you these things didn't give you pause for one second? Don't allow Scientology to turn you against your rational mind. There is data and resources out there that are objective, seek it out, read it. It's ok to question your faith, question your religion, if something is happening you don't think is right. Don't let the Scis Thought Police use Ethics and Audits and Sec Checks to scare you out of your skepticism. youfoundthecard.com

Hopefully someday, the GOOD people that just so happen to be Scientologists will discover the Free Zone and escape from the cult. We wouldn't wear masks if we didn't run the risk of being fair gamed. Please, Scientologists reading this, listen to ex-Scis that have blown... search Jason Beghe on YouTube and listen to him, for example. Set aside, for one minute, what CoS has told you about anyone that has blown and what is in their SP Declare. Look and listen to them, and judge for yourself if they seem reasonable, and what any possible agenda they might have would be. I am confident that you will see that they, along with Mark Bunker, Tory Christman and the others are not religious bigots set on suppressing happiness and enlightenment. You are good natured and good intentioned. You care about people. We understand that, because we do too. We care about the indoctrinated Scis that have been insulated from the crimes that your "donations" go to fund, and what is being done in your name. It is what David Miscavige and OSA are doing are anti-human rights and frankly, Anti-American. We support everyone's right to choose and practice their religion. But what "religion" attempts to silence critics with gray and black ops and commits crimes against humanity? What religion has an RPF forced labor camp for those that break it's tenants? What religion encourages tattle-tailing and members policing each other (via ethics chits) so as to avoid a knowledge chit themselves? What religion saber-rattles governments to get favorable legislation or tax status? What religion makes you pay thousands upon thousands of dollars to learn all of it's "secrets"? Or, if you can't pay for the "secrets" makes you "volunteer" to pay your way to learn the same? You can still study the tech. There's the Free Zone. It's not the works or good you do that we protest. Public Scientology are the victims. We protest the institution of Scientology in it's current form. And we will not stop until it has been dismantled and it's leaders are held accountable for their crimes. Expect us.

  • Shelley Miscavige 08/15/2008 5:16:00 AM

Yes, Scientology is a lot like Buddhism. Buddha charged his followers the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn his true teachings, actively messed with his critics, and devised sadistic punishments for those followers who he felt were out ethics. Oh wait. Good thing the scientologists are here to offer prospective followers the opportunity to pay money to listen to L. Ron's stream-of-consciousness rants about past lives, dead alien ghosts, and ancient alien cultures that happen to be just like 1950s America. "If a man really wanted to make a million dollars, the best way to do it would be start his own religion." --L. Ron Hubbard

  • Peggy 08/15/2008 4:14:00 AM

Nobody cares what you freaks with your masks have to say. You look and sound way more rediculous than the Scientology people do.

  • Phil 08/15/2008 4:04:00 AM

You people are insane, yeh right, The SO is taking over the Government. You all need a lesson in Religion and what the word means. It has nothing to do with "Charity" and has everything to do with spiritual enlightenment and the nature of the human spirit. If Scientology is not a religion then neither are Buddism, Hinduism and other asia religions.

Scripted $cis toeing the COMPANY line and attempting to disseminate disinformation about Anonymous in MY comments? It's more likely than you think.

Eric Finch misses the meaning of the V for Vendetta reference entirely. The religious dictatorship depicted in the film is a dead ringer for life in a country where Scientology's Sea Org has taken over the government. Imagine living in a land where any perceived "overt acts" witnessed by neighbors are writtn up in "knowledge reports" and sent to the local "Ethics Officer," who then assigns a punitive "Ethics Condition" or sends you to a Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF) camp for an indeterminable amount of time. This is how Scientology staff members live. The V masks are quite appropriate.

  • Kendrick Moxon 08/14/2008 11:12:00 PM

If you as an individual want to believe in alien overlords or whatever I don't care. However I DO oppose criminal organizations abusing the First Amendment to cover up their illegal actions and protect themselves from criticism. L. Ron Hubbard himself said that Scientology was not a religion, until it was more convenient for him to say that it was. http://www.ezlink.com/~perry/CoS/Theology/barwell2.htm The Creation of Human Ability, L. Ron Hubbard, 1953. "Society, thirsting for more control of more people substitutes religion for the spirit, the body for the soul, an identity for the individual and science and data for truth. In this direction lies insanity, increasing slavery, less knowingness, greater scarcity and less society. "Scientology has opened the gates to a better World. It is not a psycho-therapy nor a religion. It is a body of knowledge which, when properly used, gives freedom and truth to the individual." The claptrap about crosses, Sunday services, ministers, etc. is there to cover up the pseudoscience and medical quackery at the core of Scientology.

  • Eric Finch 08/14/2008 10:37:00 PM

In Alan Moore and David Lloyd's graphic novel V for Vendetta; the character V becomes a freedom fighter, in part, due to a letter from the character Valerie Page who is imprisoned and killed for being a lesbian by the book's fascist future regime that has taken over Britain. The motivation for V makes the use of V's trademark mask by the group called Anonymous extremely confusing. Why would the group choose the image of a freedom fighter in their quest to limit the freedom of religion for others? Wouldn't it make sense to adopt another costume - Spanish Inquisitor perhaps?

  • Asthmatic Dwarf 08/14/2008 9:29:00 PM

Regarding Frank G's comment--the masks are intended to prevent the "church" from getting pictures of protesters' faces and then sending private investigators and lawyers after them. This is called "fair game" (google it) and has been practiced towards critics of the cult ever since it was founded. Some scientologists may tell you that the fair game policy was rescinded by L. Ron Hubbard, but they apparently need to brush up on their Study Tech because they're not reading the memo right. L. Ron's memo does not forbid cult members from intimidating and harassing critics, it only forbids them from calling it "fair game" in public. Ask yourself what church needs its own intelligence division (Guardian's Office or Office of Special Affairs) and paramilitary organization (Sea Org). Or what church is incapable of responding to criticism through any means other than bullying critics, crying about religious persecution, and comparing itself to the Jews in WWII Germany. That last one is really ironic when you look at how the totalitarian cult is run and how its ultimate goal is to turn humanity into "homo novis" and wipe out all lesser humans, thus saving this sector of the galaxy.

"I HAVE worked in soup kitchens, I have personally given money to and helped in the trenches, in locations, with Tsunami victims, Katrina victims, my family and neighbors, and people in hospitals who were severely injured and many other situations with Scientology." "As a matter of fact, I have helped homeless people,I have worked in soup kitches, I have worked in the trenches at ground zero and Katrina, I have run food and clothes drives (every year). I have helped with park clean ups...: You Scientologists wouldn't be working from a script or anything, would you? Is this prefabricated defense what you call "thinking for yourself?"

  • David R 08/14/2008 5:27:00 PM

It's probably already been said but the organisation that calls itself the church of scientology is only expanding in the real estate sense. "Membership" in the organisation means anyone who has bought a book or gone on a course, it is widely known that actual income is way down and they are loosing more actual contributing members than they are gaining. For the first time ever we are seeing signs of them rationalising advertising by asking those they send their Celebrity magazine to to re-subscribe in order to keep it coming; many have not and are glad to be rid of the constant barrage of Scientology propaganda, which some have being receiving for upwards of 30 years.

Hey Mr & Mrs Scilon, have you looked at the corporation running your "church"? Do you know what that corporation does to its staff? Do you know what is really being done with the money you are shelling out to go up the bridge? Unbridled apathy won't work with your argument. If you don't care, please let Anonymous do that for you to further prevent BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES. Please get a clue and realize we're not protesting your right to worship, it's the abuses of the fraud behind the "church".

WHAT IS THE SECRET THAT SCIENTOLGY FEARS THE MOST FROM BEING EXPOSED? The secret most un-exposed about Scientology is that is it an applied physiological philosophy rather than an applied religious philosophy. All Scientology courses, all auditing processes, and all the management and professional courses are based on physiological phenomenas, psychophysiology, emotions, human behavior patterns etc., that are our birth right and used in Scientology as their own discoveries. Even their PTS-SP data is based upon how a Symptom re-stimulation is brought out by physiological reactions of the mind affecting the body when under stress. They blame innocent human beings called by them suppressive persons for bringing out a symptom that was there to warn you of hidden real illnesses caused by non-suppressive sources such as parasites, chemicals, poisons, toxins, viruses and bacteria. The data on PTS-SP is twisted by them to blame innocent people in order to keep them in line. The only way to fight them is to expose to the world--how Scientology has used physiological phenomenas as the basis for a false religion. How it has harmed families by claiming that innocent mothers and fathers are SPs -- when they lied about symptom re-stimulations to the world. No where in Scientology will you find courses on any bible, there is no study or belief in heaven, hell, saints, angels, the devil, or even God himself. They do not study religion or even believe in religions. They do not share common values with any other religion. Their goal is to eliminate all other religions. The E-meter reads your physiological reactions, the Ronbots never calls it thatthey call it the CHARGE or the MASS or ENGRAMS OR MENTAL IMAGE PICTURES that you have in your brainall meant to distract you from the truth. Know this fact --- There is a law of Nature or law of God called Physiological Reactions that is the true secret behind Scientologys Dianectic study technology. LRH discovered that when you passed a misunderstood wordyou manifested many reactions of various types: Yawning, sleepiness, not there feeling, dizziness, blurry eyes, nervousness and dozens more. Being the liar that he was, he claimed that physiological reactions which he now calls Dianetics was his invention and not a law of God; he hid the fact that it is our human inheritance since time began. Granted that his power of obnosis was the best in the world, his crime against humanity was to make a religion based upon the falsehood, that it was his invention or creation and not a law of God belonging to all Humanity as their lawful right. All living beings have physiological (The functions and activities of life or of living matter such as the organic processes of organs, tissues, or cells) phenomenas (observable reactions known through the senses rather than by thought or intuition), or physical manifestations (made evident by showing or displaying) or physical reactions, that we see or feel as symptoms, and they are external and/or internal or visible signs or warnings given to us, by our creator to help us survive, help us increase our potential, our knowledge and our health. All life on Earth has these cause and effect reactions called physiological phenomenas. All living beings whether they are plant, insect, retile or animal or human could not live without these reactions. They influence the bodys and the minds reactions to any form of stimuli, and have an influence on every cell of the body and mind. [Noun. Physiological reaction Is an automatic instinctive unlearned reaction to a stimulus.] [Examples of physiological reactions: inborn reflex, innate reflex, instinctive reflex, reflex response, unconditioned reflex, accommodation reflex, Babinski reflex, belching, headache, migraines, swelling, sweating, erections, blinking, blushing, burping, defecation reflex, disgorgement, involuntary eye blinking, farting, skin flush, gag reflex, goose bump, goose pimple, gooseflesh, involuntary gulping, involuntary hiccup, knee-jerk reflex, light reflex, puking, papillary reflex, rectal reflex, regurgitation, shaking, shiver, shock, sneezing, startle, stretch reflex, suckling reflex, trembling, upset stomach, vomiting, involuntary winking, yawn, yawning -- plus hundreds more.] Ron studied Physiological reactions more than most scientists and applied it to invent a new Religion. He did not invent but copied the laws of nature and scammed the whole world into thinking that he alone discovered these reactions and no one else did. What he did do - was noticed the reactions of students and from this scam invented Dianetics study tech. Examples of Physiological reactions of the body and mind when reading: Falling asleep while reading - yawning, confusion, feeling blank, feeling anxious, not there feeling, tearing eyes, eyes going out of focus, dizziness, reeling, rebelliousness, headaches, skipping words, feeling nauseous, fidgeting, jumpy while reading, cant stay still, mispronouncing words, feeling as if you are squashed, feeling as if you are over-whelmed, twitching, cant apply what you are reading, cant understand what you are reading, etc. are all due to physiological reactions when you read misunderstood words or misunderstood definitions. To understand the secrets of your enemy is to know exactly where to hurt him. Scientologys copyrighted files on based upon the laws of Nature and laws of God; they are in violation of copyrights and patent rights. Therefore, the contents or subjects can be used by anyone and can be talked about without fear of any lawsuit. Everything you do produces a reaction in your body and mind. Every time you read, eat, sleep, rest, run, etc. produces a reaction. To tell your mother that you invented a new religion, because you discovered why you farted, is a good example of the scam that Ron pulled on you. He got away with it because the world did not see these reactions as they applied to reading. Or if some scientist saw and knew ithe did not protest it and allowed a Cult to claim it as their own new discovery. I find it funny how the Scientologists accuse us of trying to 'infiltrate their church' yet conveniently forgetting Operation Snow White (google it) in the 1970s where they were responsible for the single largest infiltration of the US government in history; several high ranking officials received jail time when this was exposed. It's all a matter of public record - and they cannot deny that it happened, yet they will. Like they deny the "OT3" level story of Xenu (again, google it) yet it's all available on the internet if you know where to look. Of course there's no proof that Anonymous is responsible for graffiti on their building - because we didn't do it. Recently, the windows of their building in Hamburg, Germany, were smashed on the night before a planned protest... yet mysteriously not one of the 40 cameras inside and pointing at the building happened to be working that evening. How strange eh? The Sci lady wasn't putting any dates for Anonymous in her diary? How about this Saturday, 16th August? Expect us. Not only in Seattle but in over 100 locations worldwide. We have cake, they have lies.

  • narne 08/14/2008 1:08:00 PM

Misleading headline. Claiming that Scientology is expanding is contentious after even a little research.

  • Anon, He Mussed 08/14/2008 12:29:00 PM

I'm very happy to see this article come out so well! I and all of the Seattle Anonymous sincerely appreciate the opportunity you gave us to speak, Mr. Miller. I personally hope you, alongside anyone in the area who is moved even a little bit by this cause, joins us in protest this Saturday, Aug 16th! (link to protest details here: http://www.lulznw.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=919) I'd also like to add something, as a kind of rebuttal to Anne Pearce's implications that we as a group or as individuals have operated outside the law. The truth is, we too have met with the SPD and are operating with their complete 100% blessing (not to mention their private encouragement as thinking individuals). This obviously doesn't mean that any official who is aware of us, (even the Sheriff that scientology calls out for every monthly protest, flanked by the constant private detective of failure, and the occasional security guard or two), would hesitate to arrest any one of us if we stepped out of line. The CoS building itself is literally festooned with security cameras watching every conceivable angle, so it's incredibly telling that none of their claims of our so called 'illegal activity' have any validation of any kind behind them, or an ounce of video tape. One hopes you the public can see the lies of this cult for yourself. In closing, I hope to see any and all of you out there protesting with us this Saturday, August 16th at the Church of Scientology on Aurora, in Seattle!

If they want to put masks on is because they just have something to hide! but they are the same kind of people that committed crimes against the Jewes, that attacked the black people etc etc There is nothing new in them, same old hate covered by a new mask!

just google scientology. Read their version and then read accounts from former memebers of the cult. Xenu.net is good to start. My opinion is scientology is a dangerous cult. Avoid at all costs. If I ask a catholic or protestent or Muslim or Mormon or other religious reverend what their religion believes in they will tell me. They will GIVE me FREE a bible, Koran or book of Mormon. Scilons will NEVER TELL YOU what their religion believes in. It costs approximately $350,000 to rid your body of the souls of dead space aliens and ultimately be awarded SUPER HUMAN POWERS. It is 100% bs. Visit wiki leaks too. You can read all the OT LEVELS Which cost you $350k if your a member of the cult. Oh ya guise, be careful reading OTIII, they believe it will cause you to get sick and die if you read this BEFORe you have given the required "DONATION"

  • David Miscaviage 08/14/2008 8:10:00 AM

It's amusing how every insane criminal inside of the Scientology cult calls himself or herself a "Reverend." LOL! I wonder if Gotti or any other Gambino mobster also called themselves "Reverend." If Scientology's insane cult leaders do it, why can't any criminal enterprise?

  • Fredric L. Rice 08/14/2008 8:03:00 AM

: controversial 1993 decision, the IRS declared : Scientology a tax-exempt religious organization. Arrgh! No it didn't!!! The IRS ruled the Scientology crime syndicate to be a tax exempt 501(c)3 charity, not a god damned religion!!! The IRS is not allowed to dictate what is and what is not a religion. Scientology is NOT classified as a religion in the United States, it is classed as a charity! Arrgh, it always annoyes me when some reporter makes that stupid mistake. No government agency in the United States has the authority to dictate what's a religion and what is not. In the 1960's and 1970's the FBI classified Scientology as organized crime. http://www.nots.org/ has many of the FBI documents releaed through FOIA that cover the Scientology crime syndicate and its head ringleader L. Ron Hubbard. People who write articles about Scientology and Hubbard should do their homework first. Noi offense intended.

  • Fredric L. Rice 08/14/2008 7:51:00 AM

LOL! That's insane. In fact that's Tom Cruise Crazy! Scientology has at most some 40,000 remaining customers world wide thanks mostly due to the efforts of the ARSCC in disseminating the truth about the crime syndicate and, just this year, thanks to the addition of Anonymous which has taken to the streets to innoculate raw meat away from the Scientology frauds. When the ARSCC started exposing what Scientology and its many fake fronts are and actually do, the crime syndicate had at most a million customers. That was in 1992 or so. With the ARSCC and now Anonymous, we have brought the customer base down to a paltry 40,000 world wide of ignorant, gullible marks, suckers, and rubes, and we are continueing to destroy the crime syndicate solely because Scientology is organized crime. Check out one of the syndicate's worse crimes: Their fake "drug treatment" fraud they call "NarCONon." It not only does not work, it kills people. http://www.crackpots.org/ covers all the details including what medical doctors, law enforcement, and other health officials have to say avbout Scientology's "NarCONon" frauds. The more one knows about Scientology, the more one knows that it is not a freligion but is simply organized crime. It's all on the Internet backed by court documents and eye witness accounts of victims who have fallen for the Scientology crijme syndicate's enbdless bait-and-switch bunko frauds.

  • Amanda 08/14/2008 7:33:00 AM

Interesting article!! I would really like to see more about this subject... so I can be better informed about this. I've looked at the links in the comments and found Shocking accusations, most of which were back with court documents, and video evidence. The Scientologists' comments were also interesting. I noticed that S/he mentioned their PERSONAL involvement with charity, but didn't talk about what their church did... I agree that all RELIGIONS have charity programs... If this Church dosen't have a charity program is it a church???? The reason that churches get tax exemptions is because of these charitable contributions to society... If Scientology isn't putting money and resources to the needy THEY ARE NOT A CHURCH AND SHOULD NOT BE TAX EXEMPT... SO Show me charity programs... food banks, financial assistance, gifts to the needy, real help GIVEN FREELY or stop misusing the word CHURCH!!!

  • Scilon 08/14/2008 7:18:00 AM

Hey Mr. Watcher, (Mrs)Silon here. I am not "OSA" I am an individual Scientologist. As a matter of fact, I have helped homeless people,I have worked in soup kitches, I have worked in the trenches at ground zero and Katrina, I have run food and clothes drives (every year). I have helped with park clean ups, Much of this has been church sponsered and with indiviual church staff and members out there doing the work! WE have raised money for medicine and items for Tsunami and Katrina victums and sent people out to do whatever was needed. WE DO MORE THAN WE PROMOTE to help in disasters and things needed in communities, Just like any other church. You are misinformed. Who have you helped? I am not posting to battle with anyone. I just want to let observers know that there are 2 sides of every story.

I agree Scilon, those people should do their own research. But not via Dianetics or a "stress test" or "personality test". If you want to learn about the aspects of the Cult of Scientology that Anonymous protests, please Google: Lisa McPherson Operation Snow White Paulette Cooper Operation Freakout scientology fair game "OT VIII" Xenu purification rundown niacin Please, anyone wanting to know the TRUTH about Scientology and about Anonymous, do your own research. Don't simply believe us, or them. Don't believe anything anyone tells you. Research it yourself and come to your own conclusion. We have no issue with the average public Scientologist, most are not aware of the lies, atrocities and scams perpetrated by the Cult they've become a part of. It's like The Truman Show (to steal an analogy from Tory Magoo). We fully believe in the freedom of expression and speech. In the freedom of religion. We have issue with the harms and abuses being put forth GLOBALLY by the Co$ against the very most basic of human liberties and freedoms. We are Anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. August 16th, 2008.

  • Scilon 08/14/2008 6:50:00 AM

First of all, I am not "OSA" I am an individual Scientologist. 2.)I HAVE worked in soup kitchens, I have personally given money to and helped in the trenches, in locations, with Tsunami victims, Katrina victims, my family and neighbors, and people in hospitals who were severely injured and many other situations with Scientology. And I will continue to do so. 3) When you are attacking Scientology and the people who believe in it, you are attacking individual people that are good and have the right to worship and practice what they wish. I never attacked you in my post. Who have you ever helped?

  • A Watcher 08/14/2008 5:58:00 AM

And now... Heeeeeerrreee's OSA! :sigh: Over and over again whenever I read a comment posted by a member of the COS, it's THE SAME DAMN THING. 'I helped people get off drugs. I saved marriages and helped lots of people to read, etc...' All these claims WITH NO PROOF to back it. What about the homeless, Mr/Ms. Scilon? What about the hungry and the poor; people who have no livelihood and can't find work and end up living out on the streets? Do you help THEM? I don't mean dropping a few coins into an old mans paper cup or putting a dollar into a sax player's open music case. Does the COS have any programs set up to help those less fortunate, or is it widely considered by the COS 'a waste of money'? EVERY *REAL* RELIGION dictates to their followers to care for their less fortunate. EVERY one of them has some sort of program to aid those in need. They have soup kitchen's, food banks, shelters and other programs and charities set up to help those people get back on their feet. How many people have YOU given to, OSA? When was the last time you did something for someone else WITHOUT the expectation of recognition or personal gain?

  • From A Scilon 08/14/2008 4:55:00 AM

I really take offense to being called an Idiot and having my religion attacked by people who really don't have any personal "beef" with Scientology. I have helped people with Scientology on a daily basis for the past 30 years. I cannot count how many people that I have helped get off drugs, how many marriages that I helped save, how many students that I have helped with study problems and much more. I and all of my Scientologist's friends are hard working people trying to make a difference in this world! You all have your right to your opinion, but that is what it is, just your opinion. If anyone reading this would like to know the truth about Scientology, get a book down at the Library and read it. That way you can find out for yourself. It might be something for you and it might not. But, at least your opinion would be based on first hand observation.

Thanks for the correction. We've fixed the url to .org.

  • Anonymous 08/14/2008 3:25:00 AM

I'd be very interested to see the police reports of those instances of trespassing, graffiti, and routine harassment. Unless, of course, those reports don't exist or directly contradict those claims. Oops!

  • 08/14/2008 2:27:00 AM

There are many ex-scilons in Seattle and they are doing their part in bringing down the co$. They may not participate in monthly protests, but they are busy elsewhere. The truly sad part about the purchase of multi-million dollar buildings is that the local "church" hits up its parishioners for the money to buy them, then the lease belongs to upper management (meaning Miscavige) and the local "church" then has to pay to lease the building BACK! It's awful. The poor local members are being bled dry. If you've never taken a free stress test or the "personality test" count your blessings and stay away. If you did and you got trapped, leave now. The way out is the door and we will be here to help you.

  • KRee 08/14/2008 2:00:00 AM

Ah, the plaintive sobs of a bunch of unhappy cultists. Coming into contact with cheerful, dancing, *happy* people who are willing to throw a street party every month in one's honor must be a truly painful experience. But seriously... yeah, L Ron Hubbard once said that if you really wanted to get rich, you should start a religion. And that's what he did.

  • brownjedi 08/14/2008 1:04:00 AM

Maritime and military themes run deep in scientology because they bill Lron as a war hero, which he was not. The only inherent danger that he ran into during his time in the navy was with harming the innocent. He is responsible for the unauthorized firing at an island that belongs to Mexico and the sinking of phantom subs. His superior officers found him unfit for leadership. Even though he claimed to be able to cure a wide variety of ailments, he collected disability checks from the navy until he died. He lied about his military service, his academic credentials, his marriages. At different points, he claimed to be a doctor, nuclear scientist, and great humanitarian. Go Anons....People of Seattle reject this scam.

  • Cathy 08/14/2008 1:00:00 AM

    ENTURBULATION.ORG >>>NOT .COM!!!

  • Bob 08/14/2008 12:47:00 AM

It takes an idiot to believe in a"Religion" that is based upon sci-fi comic book fantacies. Don't these idiots know that R. Ron Hubbard developed this "Religion" (?)in order to keep from paying his taxes on his very lucrative book sales? ie. Science Fiction comics.

  • Anonymous 08/14/2008 12:02:00 AM

Scientology keeps repeating their lies hoping that at some point someone will believe them. Repeating them doesn't make them true! Buying more buildings doesn't mean the church is "expanding" in anything other than square footage. Their membership is dropping, new recruits are dropping, but the one thing that IS expanding is the media coverage of their scam!

Watch those buildings rot. The co$ will try to fleece all the money that they can from their followers to do renovations and then do NOTHING. The cult of scientology does nothing but Lie, Lie, Lie, and then Lie again.

  • Robert 08/13/2008 11:22:00 PM

Sorry scientology, no one from anonymous tagged your buildings. Why do you have to continue to lie about these things?

  • Anonymous Prototype 08/13/2008 10:53:00 PM

Fact check: ENTURBULATION.ORG is the website you meant to link to... not .com

  • Lisa 08/13/2008 10:32:00 PM

$cientology is a cult of greed. It's called "pay to pray," and it's designed to be a money-making scam. That's why it is so ridiculous that the profit-based company is tax exempt. Most of the protesters just want the IRS to re-impose a normal tax on the cult since they "charge" rather than simply accept donations like religions.
