Think New Kids on the Blockwith curly pink tails. In Tina La Plant and Jill Wangsgards zany epic about porcine youth blinded by the limelight, three little piggies with Starz in Their Eyes sing their way into the claws of the big bad wolf (ahem, talent agent). Under Mimi Katanos direction, Youth Theatre Northwest transforms their Mercer Island venue into a barnyard of prepubescent livestock (the band chick sports a beak and feathers), singing and dancing their hearts out under some of the most alarming, seizure-inducing disco lighting Ive ever seen (the grand mals are courtesy of Trina B. Wright). Accompanied by excellent student musicians from the Bush School, this precocious cast could teach adults a thing or two about comedic timing and perfect pitch. Ill admit I succumbed to helpless chuckles as the knee-high tykes in the audience waved their complimentary glowsticks (in lieu of lighters) to tunes inspired by Whitesnake, Poison, and Motley Crue.
