Decibal Point, Sevrage, Falling of Ages

Wednesday, July 2

Creative spelling never goes out of style with metal monikers, as Decibal Point and Sevrage prove. These bands also possess other crucial heavy-music elements, such as shred-happy guitarists, super-fast drumbeats, death-rattle basslines and growling singers. Decibal Point's members, who are all in their '30s or '40s, come by their thrash-flashback sound authentically, likely drawing on their own experiences in the '80s metal madhouse. In an interview with a Canadian ezine, drummer Donnie Spearman described music making as "stressfully beautiful," an endearingly poetic description of the process that produced brutal tunes such as "Tap The Vein" and "Burn it to the Ground." If Decibal Point represents a modern Nuclear Assault, Sevrage is this scene's S.O.D., a punk-infused prankster that has no qualms about taking the stage blitzed and ranting about the "Slut Factory." Rounding out the all-Washington-based bill, Falling of Ages plays technical death metal, with complex song structures, blast beats and a guttural vomit-yell vocalist. Studio Seven, 110 S. Horton St., 286-1312. 7:30 p.m., $7 adv, $8 dos. All ages.
