More About

Erin Frost is a beast. In her stunning new series of self-portraits, “Captive Creatures” (on display through June 28), she’s like a wolf, centaur, queen cobra, and even a poppy plant. It’s her surreal way of exploring issues of transformation and power. But if that sounds like wonky art-speak, Frost’s work is direct, refreshing, and dramatic. She distorts reality using mirrors, plays with soft focus, and isn’t afraid of baring all for her camera (or dressing like a fox). Dark blacks, excellent compositions, and eccentric angles give her work an erotic twist. But no PETA protests, please. No animals were harmed in the making of these photographs. Some Space Gallery, 625 First Ave., 718-3104, www.somespacegallery.com. Free. 9 a.m.–6 p.m. JOSHUA LYNCH
