A 1993 Miller Lite commercial portrayed dachshund racing as a joke, but it led to the highly competitive Wiener Nationals, which Shane MacDougalls STIFF doc Wiener Takes All: A Dogumentary treats like Best in Show. Here we meet pampered pups, wacky owners, and their quest for low-slung speed. (The short-legged critters can reach sausage velocity, they claim, of 30 feet per second!) With race footage and an interview with the bewildered creators of the original beer spot, MacDougalls film is alternately charming and absolutely ludicrous. Doping allegations are made, and owners debate whether one wieners win counts when he bites the wiener ahead of him in the butt. If Wiener Takes All proves anything, its that dachshund racing truly is a dog-eat-dog world.
