Cheap Wine and Poetry Night

A few years ago, a psychologist coined the term "the Sylvia Plath effect" to account for poets and artists supposedly having a greater susceptibility to mental illness than most people. (Thanks for the news flash, science.) Here’s an occasion to put that hypothesis to an empirical test. The regular Cheap Wine and Poetry Night features readings by published poets, an open mic session for wannabe Sextons, and $1 glasses of wine. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favorite writers. And don’t take the easy way out—donning a straightjacket doesn’t count. Richard Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave., 324-2566, www.cheapwineandpoetry.com. Free. 7 p.m. ERIKA HOBART
