Morcheeba

Why, oh why did the Godfrey brothers part ways with lead singer Skye Edwards? They cite "different musical ambitions" but that PR snippet provides little comfort to Mocheeba's early '90s fan base. Since then, plenty of lackluster singers have gone through the London trip hop band's revolving door and not one has shown even a hint of that coquettish charm Edwards possessed. Having tested the waters and found nothing, Morcheeba gave up finding a replacement for Edwards and sought out guest vocalists via MySpace to feature on their latest album Dive Deep. Ironically, it's one of their best to date; a trip hop indulgence saturated in sluggish beats and ethereal vocals. Submerge yourself in their hypnotic sea of sound. With Frederico Aubele. Showbox at the Market, 1426 First Ave., 628-3151. 8 p.m. $22.50 adv./$25. ERIKA HOBART
