A Room of
Ones Own
A dance floor, that is, at this
women-only party
Created by two New York girlfriends sick of cover charges, getting hit on, and having drinks spilled on them, Dance! Dance! Party! Party! is a boogying sanctuary with three rules: no boys, no booze, and no judgment. Because I like boys and drink and judge absolutely everybody, I called Seattle DDPP chapter head and self-
proclaimed dance diva Jaime Carufel to find out why the hell this is actually fun. Theres something freeing about dancing with just a bunch of chicks, she tells me. Nobody cares what they look like. I usually pretend Im a ballerina. Sometimes we bust into spontaneous choreography and start doing the hustlebut to punk music. Well even get jiggy with it once in awhile. The music selection varies from new wave to 90s hits; requests are always welcome. Carufel says she sees women in their 20s to 40s at DDPP, and the number of participants grows each session. So ditch that martini and not-very-cute dude at least for tonight and get in some wholesome cardioits Sunday, for Gods sake.
